The German Forest Association wants to improve the general conditions for the forest and forestry in Germany through forest policy initiatives, targeted public relations work and well-founded training and further education offers. With the experience, interest and knowledge of its more than 6,000 members, the Deutsche Forstverein eV has been the first point of contact since 1899 when it comes to the forest.

The purpose and objectives of their forest association are set out in their statutes. Most recently, the articles of association were changed at the 67th General Assembly 2015 in Flensburg.
