About

EDUCE, A.C. started its steps in the peninsular Mayan region since 1989, but was legally constituted until 1992. Accompaniment work has been carried out for more than 23 years in the regions of the Chenes in Campeche and in the Poniente de Bacalar region in Quintana Roo and, a couple of years ago, the accompaniment of a new micro-region of work in south-central Yucatan begun.

The accompaniment of the different processes seeks the integral formation of the people with whom they collaborate. Technical-productive and organizational-administrative processes have been attended and accompanied, seeking to provide tools that will improve and increase both the local production of groups and social enterprises, as well as their personal growth. They opted to promote organic agriculture and beekeeping, as a sustainable alternative for the management of the forest and the production of healthy food, as well as the training of technical cadres and leaders with a broad sense of co-responsibility and service to their people and community.

They also promoted community savings within the solidarity economy, mainly with women, although not exclusively. The response was mostly from mothers of families. Within this same process and following an emergency situation due to the passage of Hurricane Isidoro in the Yucatan Peninsula (2002), the process of promotion for the conservation of native seeds was also initiated; This is currently a process assumed by a group of promoters, who acquire the commitment to organize a seed fair annually. As part of their commitment, they disseminate information that affects food sovereignty as a people and share alternatives for dissemination and consultation that allow the population to have information and make informed decisions.

In 2009 they started a process that they call Political Training, in which promoters and community representatives participated who had already participated in other training spaces promoted by their organization. In both working micro-regions they requested a series of topics of interest, of which they wanted to know and know what they are referring to. For this purpose, they plan a series of workshops that allow us to share information and clarify doubts. In this way, they initiated a Training Process on the subject of Human Rights with a Historical focus, which complemented the Individual Rights topic of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States. As a result of these actions in the West of Bacalar, the promoters organized themselves to request a hospital with the minimum conditions necessary to meet and guarantee the right to health of the population of the microregion. This is a process that remains in force, which is why they always seek to deepen more in the knowledge of the issue of rights as a way of being able to demand and defend the rights that as an indigenous people have.

They also work at the network level, joining efforts with organized civil society. They have participated in regional and national networks such as ICE (Civil Incidence in Education) co-organizing forums in Yucatán, Chiapas, Tabasco and Quintana Roo; they organize a collective called Ko'one'ex t'aan to promote and work from the Food Sovereignty in the 3 states of the Yucatan Peninsula with organized Civil Society, they are part of the National Network in Defense of Corn and they are organizers of the Fair of Native Seeds Exchange for 11 years in the Yucatan Peninsula. They have publications such as Traditional Mayan Medicine, Mayan Lotteries, Indicative Plans of Development, Diversity of the Milpa Maya.

The structure of the organization consists of a general assembly of associates as the highest authority, an enlarged board of directors (made up of founders and project coordinators) and an operational board of directors (legal representation and managers and work teams). They are currently made up of two teams (Yucatán and Quintana Roo in the Yucatan Peninsula) with local coordination.
