Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority (EREA) was established under the Decision 3816/QD-BCT dated October 2, 2017 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

EREA is an agency directly under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, performing the function of advising and assisting the Minister of Industry and Trade in state management and implementation of state management tasks in the fields of electricity, energy and renewable energy (including thermal power, hydropower, nuclear power, power transmission, power distribution, rural electricity, new energy, renewable energy); manage and perform public service activities under the management of EREA.

EREA has a legal status, an account and is allowed to use its own seal and operating fund provided by the state budget, headquartered in Hanoi.
