About

Founded in 1998, Equality California is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots-based, statewide advocacy organization whose mission is to achieve and maintain full and lasting equality, acceptance, and social justice for all people in the diverse LGBT communities, inside and outside of California. The mission includes advancing the health and well-being of LGBT Californias through direct healthcare service advocacy and education.

Through electoral, advocacy, education and mobilization programs, they strive to create a broad and diverse alliance of LGBT people, educators, government officials, communities of color and faith, labor, business, and social justice communities to achieve the goals.

Equality California is made up of Equality California (EQCA) and the Equality California Institute. EQCA is an I.R.S 501(c)(4) organization that utilizes electoral, advocacy, education, and mobilization programs to achieve its mission. The Institute is an I.R.S. 501(c)(3) organization that  utilizes advocacy, education, and mobilization programs to achieve its mission.

Equality California is the nation’s largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization dedicated to creating a fair and just society.

In 2016, they celebrated the passage of the 118th piece of LGBT civil rights legislation in California, making Equality California the nation’s most effective LGBT advocacy and public education organization. They are working within California, at the federal level, and directly with other states to win and protect full equality for LGBT people.

They are tackling the critical issues still facing LGBT people and the families through education, electoral, advocacy and mobilization programs to achieve the mission: full and lasting equality, acceptance and social justice for all people in the diverse LGBT communities, inside and outside of California. The mission includes advancing the health and well being of LGBT Californians.
