About

Founded originally in 1907, re-opened in 1966 with classes starting in 1968, the Faculty of Education at Queen's University has graduated more than 23,000 teachers and education professionals who are now working around the world.

Our Bachelor of Education program is distinguished today by the special programs of study that it offers - Outdoor and Experiential Education (OEE), Artist in Community Education (ACE), Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP), and both a Bachelor's degree and Diploma in Technological Education.

Queen's Faculty of Education was the first education faculty to create a placement office (re-named Education Career Services) for its teacher candidates and it continues to offer a broad range of career-related activities. Queen's hosts an annual Teachers' Overseas Recruiting Fair for Queen's teacher candidates, alumni, and other Canadian teachers interested in an international teaching experience.

The Faculty offers both a masters and doctoral program in education in three fields: Curriculum Studies, Cognitive Studies, and Cultural and Policy Studies. The masters program may be completed either as course work plus a thesis or a project on a full-time or part-time basis.

A part of a leading research institution, the Faculty is recognized for its integration of technology in teaching, learning, research and administration. We are a research-intensive faculty offering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in education. Our faculty conducts research in cognitive processes in learning, language, arts education, mathematics literacy, assessment and evaluation, history of education, issues of inclusivity, and cultural contexts among other areas.

Through its Continuing Teacher Education (CTE) Office, the Faculty actively supports and assists education professionals in their ongoing professional development by offering a large selection of Additional Qualification (AQ) and Additional Basic Qualification (ABQ) courses, as well as the Principals' Qualifications Program (PQP). Offered both on-line and on-site, the course offerings are designed to permit broad flexibility in continuing education.
