FDC is a private, non-profit organization that works to combine efforts of all sectors of society with the purpose of promoting development, democracy and social justice. FDC was born out of the conviction that poverty is not inevitable. It is the result of a complex process in which the most needy are marginalized and exploited. They do not have access to scientific and technological knowledge, information on the most appropriate technologies; have limited access to resources and information on how to make better use of the resources they have; do not receive sufficient support from the country's formal institutions, including education, health, transport, agriculture and financial services. The combination of this set of circumstances influences, in general, the attitude of the people before the nature and before the life and, in particular, their convictions that they have limited possibilities of improving the situation in which they live. These are the structural and psychological obstacles, the main causes that FDC intends to change.
Over the last 15 years, FDC has implemented and supported a wide-ranging intervention in priority areas such as education, health, food security, and income generation, water and sanitation and HIV / AIDS, with particular emphasis on the vulnerable groups such as women and children. Throughout the country, more than 100 civil society organizations and networks have been strengthened, and FDC and its implementing partners have been active in more than half of the country's 128 districts. At the same time, the Foundation has been working continuously on its own capacity building and institutional financial strengthening.
