While his term as President of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) was coming to an end, Paul Gérin-Lajoie was given the task of chairing a non-governmental organization in a field His eyes: education.

The Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to contribute to basic education for children, as well as to literacy and vocational training for young people in developing countries. In Canada, the Foundation conducts awareness-raising activities on international cooperation and solidarity.

At present, the Foundation focuses its efforts in 5 developing countries, Benin, Guinea, Mali, Senegal and Haiti.

In these countries of intervention, the Foundation develops programs for community capacity building in the following areas:

  • Basic education
  • Training and professional integration
  • Empowerment and socio-economic development
