The General Motors Foundation helps us achieve this goal by strengthening communities across the United States through investments in education, health and human services, environment and energy, community development and worldwide disaster relief efforts. Over the past ten years, the foundation, fully funded by a GM endowment in 2000, has donated more than $315 million to send students to college, keep teen drivers safe, educate parents on child passenger safety, promote diversity and support vital non-profit organizations. Committed to reducing waste and pollutants, General Motors conserves resources and recycles materials at every stage of the vehicle lifecycle.
The General Motors Foundation
Since its inception in 1976, the General Motors Foundation has dedicated itself to giving back to communities across the country. Over the past decade, the GM Foundation has donated more than $265 million in grants to support nonprofit organizations within the areas of Education, Health and Human Services, Environment/Safety and Community Development.
Today, the GM Foundation focuses on investments in education that support the next generation of leaders and innovators, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Beyond supporting the education of our nation’s youth from birth to college through initiatives like the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program, the GM Foundation gives students hands-on experiences that further their environmental studies and cultural experiences within their communities. In addition, the GM Foundation has a 17-year partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide to provide programs that lead to safe habits both inside and outside of cars.
To continue its commitment to local communities, through its annual Plant City Grant Program, the GM Foundation gives approximately $2 million in grants to nonprofits where GM has operations as part of its Plant City Grants initiative.
Education - General Motors and the General Motors Foundation have a long history of investing in education initiatives and encouraging students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math, also known as STEM, and in information technology and other fields related to the automotive industry. Since 2007, the GM Foundation has invested over $70 million in the development of the next generation of leaders and innovators by making education more accessible, affordable and rewarding, from birth through college.
Health and Human Resources - With an emphasis on health care, disaster relief, vehicle-related safety and wellness, the GM Foundation is a major contributor to the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross and Safe Kids Worldwide.
Environment and Energy - GM and the GM Foundation takes seriously the stewardship and responsible, sustainable management of the environment. Through its support of organizations such as Earth Force GREEN, the GM Foundation invests in education that promotes environmental sustainability, conservation and protection as good citizenship.
Community Development - The GM Foundation is dedicated to economic development, social action and improving the communities where we work and live.
