GERKATIN stands for Movement for the Well-Being of Deaf Indonesians declared through the National Congress I, on February 23, 1981 in Jakarta, previously there were several deaf communities including: Sekatubi = Indonesian Deaf Deaf Union, Pekatur = Deaf Association Surabaya, Pertri = Association Indonesian Deaf (Yogyakarta), Gerkatin = Indonesian Deaf Movement (Bandung). Currently Gerkatin has 28 DPDs (Regional Management Boards) and 69 DPCs (Branch Management Boards) in Indonesia. Also accompanied by sign language interpreters at each event.
