GHR Foundation is pioneering design-build philanthropy to create change with partners around the world in the areas of global development, education and health.
Founded in 1965 by Gerald and Henrietta Rauenhorst, GHR collaborates with a community of thought leaders to exchange ideas and locally-driven solutions, anchored in responsibility and the knowledge that all people are deeply connected. Having seen the impact possible through design-build philanthropy, GHR meets each challenge with creativity and optimism.
Drawing inspiration from the streamlined approach to construction pioneered by Gerald Rauenhorst, design-build philanthropy funds partnerships—and even begins implementation—before a project plan is fully developed. Providing
resources and taking action early creates space and time for partners to think, plan, learn and adjust. GHR believes early action and learning, paired with collaboration at every level, provides the greatest opportunity for modification and impact.
GHR’s global funding areas include:Children in Families
GHR supports efforts to strengthen families, protect children and drive further evidence of innovative approaches.
GHR works to improve development and peacebuilding outcomes by mobilizing religious leaders and communities.
In addition to these initiatives, GHR partners with OpenIDEO to conduct the annual BridgeBuilder Challenge, awarding $1 million to ideas that address urgent global challenges in radically new ways. BridgeBuilder invests in the building and repairing of unique bridges at the intersections of peace, prosperity and planet.
