Grandmother Project

The Grandmother Project (GMP) is an international development organization working to improve the health and well-being of women and children. GMP develops community approaches that promote positive and sustained improvements in the lives of girls, children, women and families by building on existing cultural and community values, roles and assets. GMP develops methods and tools for capacity building at the community level, specifically by working with local leaders and groups, and also at the organizational level, by supporting development of programs and policies that promote the inclusion of grandmothers, and elders in general, and that strengthen intergenerational relationships. GMP works in partnership with other groups and organizations that have ongoing community programs. GMP believes that involving elders, strengthening intergenerational relationships and increasing the capacity of community members to use consensus-building approaches within families and communities will both increase social cohesion and improve results of community programs for girls, children and women.
