Evaluation
GWP evaluates many projects of which the essential elements include geological, geotechnical, and hydrogeological investigations, analysis and modeling. This evaluation stage may either be an end in itself (advising on the quality and quantity of mineral resources), or the starting point and framework for feasibility studies, valuations, planning applications, environmental statements, operational designs, or the provision of expert advice.
GWP offers the full range of services necessary to identify, characterize, and measure mineral resources at each stage of their definition, from exploration through feasibility to mine design. Throughout our evaluation work we employ sound statistical and geostatistical approaches underpinned by considerable geological expertise and experience.
Design
GWP is one of the few UK consultancies with in-depth experience in the design of large quarries and opencast mines, and of development schemes involving significant earthworks. Our designs are acknowledged by clients, mineral planning authorities, the Planning Inspectorate, and by central government as being a very high standard in both practical and environmental terms.
The primary context of our design activities is the preparation of supporting information for planning or license applications and their associated environmental impact and risk assessments. We also create operational or remedial work designs.
Following approval, GWP regularly provides supervisory staff at the implementation or operational stage of its landfill or excavation designs.
Water
GWP’s water management expertise is wide ranging, including water sector planning and governance strengthening, groundwater and surface water abstraction and protection, flood alleviation, water control and de-watering, contamination remediation and impact assessment.
GWP’s water team has global project experience throughout Europe, the Middle East, Pacific, and Caribbean islands, Africa, and Asia.
Geotechnics
Geotechnics is a high profile area and one of continuing importance. Expertise in geotechnics is the foundation of much of our work and is integral to the overall viability of many projects.
GWP provides advice on a range of geotechnical and related matters including:
- The investigation and characterization of rocks and engineering soils
- The design of slopes in rock and soils, tip and engineering fill designs
- Rocakfall prediction and containment
- Subsidence prediction and back analysis of slope failures and design of remedial measures
- GWP also provides on-site customised Geotechnical Training courses for quarrying personnel.
Expert Services
In our specialist areas we are able to provide objective, independent and reliable expert support for clients involved in mergers, acquisitions, valuations, floatations, feasibility studies, public inquiries, and various forms of dispute resolution. Our expert services are characterised by attention to details, excellent communication skills and a collaborative style of working with other technical specialists, legal and financial professionals, regulators, and the public. GWP provides the following expert services:
- Expert witness
- Dispute resolution
- Due diligence and feasibility studies
Surveying
GWP offers a comprehensive in-house surveying capability fully integrated with projects in site investigation, planning and design, using GPS, robotic and targetless surveying equipment.
All surveys are processed using three dimensional data in McCarthny-Taylor’s Land Survey System (LSS). GWP has many years of experience in producing three dimensional Digital Terrain Models (DTMs). Our skill areas include:
- Topographic surveying and setting out
- Surveying geological and geotechnical features
- Setting out and surveying for engineered landfill cells
- Computation of volumes (including placed waste)
