Habitat for Humanity Japan
About

While economic successes have lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, the Asia-Pacific region is also home to the world's largest urban slum populations. Many people still lack adequate shelter and clean water and sanitation, among others. They are also most vulnerable to natural disasters and the effects of climate change. Rapid urbanization of the region also has implications for the urban poor's access to affordable housing.

Habitat for Humanity started operations in Japan in 2001 and was officially registered as a nonprofit organization in 2003. Since then, Habitat for Humanity Japan has been partnering with corporates, schools and individuals to raise funds and awareness of the need for decent, affordable housing.

In Japan, Habitat's volunteers have helped disaster-affected households with housing needs through technical advice from experts. Every year, Habitat Japan also sends volunteers to the region and beyond to build homes with those in need of decent housing.
