Helvetas is committed to a just world in which human beings determine the course of their lives with dignity and security, using natural resources in a sustainable manner and preserving the environment. Helvetas is an independent development cooperation organization - with independent subsidiaries in Germany and the USA - which provides self-help and makes real change possible in around 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe. Helvetas works in the areas of water, agriculture and food security, training, sustainable and inclusive economy, governance and peace, promotion of women and environment and climate. Helvetas also provides emergency aid following disasters. Helvetas' work focuses on rural areas. But Helvetas is also involved in the urban context and focuses its work even more actively on supporting young people.
In Switzerland, Helvetas promotes awareness of solidarity and participates in the dialogue of development policy. In addition, the organization is engaged in fair trade through its Fairshop.
