They offer readings, classes, book launches, workshops, teen programs, consultations with professional writers, and much more. The namesake, Richard Hugo, came from poverty and a broken family in White Center, but transcended his upbringing to become a nationally renowned poet. As Hugo wrote, “Writing is a way of saying that you and the world have a chance.” Everyone wants to make their mark—to find and leave a record of who they are.
