Ifakara Health Institute (IHI or Ifakara) is one of Africa's most eminent health research organisations. Established in 1956 and headquartered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, IHI is an independent, non-profit organization, registered in Tanzania. It is a world-class research, service and a training institute. IHI has a strong record in developing, testing and validating health innovations (drugs, devices, diagnostics, vaccines) and systems that save lives.
IHI is conducting more than 100 projects across the biomedical spectrum--from basic virology and ecological sciences to interventions and clinical trials, infectious and zoonotic disease surveillance and health-systems strengthening and policy development. IHI has provided training, capacity building and technical assistance (TA) to public healthcare workers, human and animal health scientists and field officers and government officials for more than 50 years. IHI works closely with Tanzanian health partners, ministries, research institutes and universities. Our international partners bring global scope and networking to our work.
