Index Foundation was established in 1997 as a not-for-profit organization with the mission to promote the development of stable civil society in Bulgaria and help strengthen the social safety nets. Index Foundation works in several major areas - education and training, research, healthcare, drug prevention. Index has won a reputation of success in accomplishing high profile international projects with sponsors and partners from the USA and the European Union.

Education and Training
INDEX Foundation is the in-country coordinator of the East and Central European Scholarship Program - regional program for long-term US-based training, administered by the Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, funded by the United States Congress through the United States Agency for International Development. Georgetown's East Central European Scholarship Program (ECESP) is recognized as one of the leading programs promoting the processes of democratization and privatization in former Soviet bloc countries and working to improve the socio-economic conditions in the region. more »

The research activities of Index Foundation are primarily focused on health, labor and civic activism.
Drug Prevention
Index Foundation has solid experience in the field of drug prevention within the framework of several international initiatives and networks - Balkan Bridge for Drug Prevention (with partners from Romania, Macedonia, Albania and the US), Civil Society for Drug Demand Reduction, (with partners from Austria, Romania, Slovenia and Hungary), Community Policing - RADAR project in Bulgaria, etc.
