Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu, is a state non-profit academic institution, major in the following subjects:
Formation and mitigation of mountain hazards
Degradation and reconstruction of mountain environment
Evaluation, planning and sustainable development of eco-environment,
Remote-sensing, mapping, GIS, and Agroecology
Mission
IMHE is the only integrated research institution in mountain science in China. Since its establishment, through their forty years of hard work and under the joint efforts of several generations of scientists and faculties, the Institute has initiated a new line of research on mountain hazards and written a glorious chapter. Invigorated by the implementation of CAS Knowledge Innovation Program, their capabilities for scientific and technological innovation have been notably enhanced. They have made quite a number of important achievements in research of mountain hazards, mountain environment, and mountain development and contributed a great deal to themountain security engineering research and ecological environment protection.
As the timesprogress, it is their duty to continue exploring and learning. On the great journey of development and innovation, they are determined to carry forward the finetradition of being realistic, concerted and creative in their work, promote the scientific spirit, and further strengthen their sense of responsibility for society. Following the principle in the new era, they must unswervingly adhere to the principle standard of “four topping”, respect able people and value their labour, improve the capacity of scientific innovation and the international academic status, make fundamental, strategic and foresighted contributions and promote IMHE to be a world-know institute. They are confident they will scale new heights and carve out a new path in the future.
The overall plan of IMHE is to be a world-famous organization of mountain science and a thought source of mountain development, to establish a framework of mountain science and support system. They are striving to develop a modern theoretical and experimental infrastructure with the international academic publications and information exchange channels and a stable economic development, and to become a scientific base fully supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Nature Science Foundation, and CAS.
