ITDG was founded in England in 1966 by Dr. E. F. Schumacher, whose book "Small is beautiful" inspired a pioneering approach to development work from the use of appropriate technologies. Today ITDG is made up of more than 500 people who work in coordination in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The Regional Office for Latin America with its headquarters in Lima, Peru works through its programs of production systems and access to markets; energy, infrastructure and basic services; new technologies; and disaster prevention and local governance.
SCOPE OF INTERVENTION
Since 1986, we have been developing projects in different regions of Peru, especially in the departments of Ancash, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Lima, Piura and San Martín.

Information and research in disasters
Research projects specialized in the subject of disasters. Construction of documentation and information systems on disasters. Geographic information system for analysis of threats, vulnerability and disaster risks. Vulnerability and risk studies that guide the land use planning plans, urban (housing and services) and productive (agricultural, livestock and industrial). Studies of risk assessment and impact of disasters.
Education / training
Application and design of training methodologies in risk management. Education and community organization, training for educational centers and organizations on information systems, risk assessment and damages caused by disasters.
Management and incidence
Physical reconstruction of infrastructures and services -homes, water systems and sanitation- for populations affected by disasters or political violence. Advice for the preparation of emergency preparedness plans. Advice to local governments for the preparation of development and reconstruction plans with a risk management approach. Participation and promotion of regional networks on risk management. Technical assistance to municipalities, institutions and organizations, both public and private, for the concerted development of local development plans, productive projects and economic development offices. Editing and production of local diagnostics and studies on the topics of technological change, urbanization, rural development, gender and rural transport. Specialized consultancy services in strategic planning, formulation and management of projects, evaluation and monitoring of projects in execution, strengthening of technical and administrative capacities, management of financial resources, human development and conflict resolution.
