The Lithuanian Red Cross Society was founded in 1919. January 12 Through the efforts of Rock Slipper and other medics. Many famous Lithuanian doctors and health care workers were active in its activities. The Society has established hospitals in Vilnius, Kaunas, Panevėžys, Klaipėda, the first tuberculosis sanatorium in Lithuania in Aukštoji Panemunė, ambulance blood transfusion establishments, nursing schools and courses, and has made a significant contribution to the development of Birštonas and other Lithuanian resorts.
The Lithuanian Red Cross belongs to an international organization - the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which is headquartered in Geneva. The organization seeks to prevent or alleviate human suffering. The Lithuanian Red Cross is a state aid in the field of humanitarian activities, implementing the 1949 Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Victims of War during peace and military conflicts. In carrying out its activities, the LRC is guided by the Basic Principles of the Red Cross: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, volunteerism, unity, universality.
Main areas of activity: care and nursing of the elderly, lonely people, training in first aid, assistance to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, and humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable people in Lithuania and abroad.
