The Magbassa Kita Founda¬tion, Inc. (MKFI), is a non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to the promotion of literacy, poverty alleviation, and peace especially in Mindanao.
Magbassa Kita Foundation was founded by Santanina Tillah Rasul in the 1960s in response to the need to the need to alleviate the very low level of literacy in the Southern Philippines. Adult education programs were initiated which years later were subsequently adapted by the Philippine government and recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The need to improve the depressing socioeconomic status of the region's population led to the implementation of skills training programs as well as incentives for self-improvement by providing business loans using microfinancing business models.
The organization’s mission is anchored in the philosophy that literacy and economic empowerment are preconditions for the meaningful participation of individuals in the society. At MKFI we envisage, not only empowering disadvantaged communities through the provision of literacy classes, but also molding powerful advocates for peace and development.
MKFI is engaged in providing basic and functional literacy classes, targeting adults with zero literacy level. Furthermore, launching training workshops such as skills in livelihood, conflict prevention, conflict resolution, peace building and inter-faith dialogues.
