Meeker Memorial Hospital
About

Meeker Memorial’s history in Litchfield dates back to 1897, beginning as a privately operated hospital. The Litchfield Hospital was built in 1910, as a shareholder, not-for-profit hospital. That hospital operated until 1952, beginning with 16 beds and later expanding to 40 beds.

In 1952, a new hospital building was erected and they became the Meeker County Memorial Hospital (MCMH), a nonprofit hospital serving the Meeker County area. MCMH was originally licensed as a 70-bed hospital and expanded to a 91-bed hospital in 1970. As health care changed, so did MCMH.

Beginning in 1988, MCMH looked closely at changing health care and responded to trends of growing outpatient service needs. The hospital began major renovation projects to decrease the total bed size to 38 inpatient beds and provide space to deliver more outpatient services with major renovations in 1989, 1992, 1995 and 2003.

In Nov. 2007, the hospital broke ground and began Phase One, in a 26.5 million dollar Expansion/Renovation Project. During that time they changed their name to Meeker Memorial Hospital (MMH), reflecting their service to Meeker county and the region. They opened the new patient care areas in June 2009 bringing them to a new total of 35 patient care beds. This was the first major expansion of approximately 75,000 square feet for the hospital since the original building was built in 1951-52. Phase One focused on direct improvements to patient care services. The new layout improved patient flow and privacy. Related services such as surgery, emergency and radiology are now located on the main level and offer greater patient flow. All inpatient services are on third floor equipped with private patient rooms for medical surgical and critical care and new private OB suites for special deliveries. They expanded rehabilitation services and specialty services on second floor to include a Rehabilitation Services area for PT, OT and Speech all in one convenient location. In addition, new cardiac rehabilitation, sleep services, expanded areas for cancer care and nuclear medicine were added and renovated in Phase II. Visitors and patients can also enjoy the new Open Door Gifts gift shop, a chapel and updated their dining services in the Prairie Winds Cafe.
