Originally responsible for postal operations, the Ministry of Posts saw the addition of the telephone sector and, more generally, that of telecommunications.
In 1790, they had the system of “mpiandry taratasy” or message carriers.
At the time of King RADAMA 1st, in 1818, the postal service was a special corps of royal messages called "Tsimandoamamy". After 1960, the year of Madagascar's independence, the Postal Office was a Department attached to the Ministry of Public Works.
It was in 1975 that the Ministry took the name of Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications according to Law No. 1046 of March 29, 1975 to become the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Development that we know today.
Given the importance of the Telecommunications sector for the social and economic development of Madagascar, the Government carried out a first reform in 1993 with the separation of the Post Office from Telecommunications
After the liberalization of the sector in 1996, the regulatory body OMERT was set up. ARTEC was created in 2014 to replace this body. In 2014 the name of the Ministry was MPTNT-Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and New Technology. Subsequently succeeded by MPTDN- Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Development. Since August 15, 2021, the name has changed to MNDPT- Ministry of Digital Development, Digital Transformation, Posts and Telecommunications. Mr. Tahina RAZAFINDRAMALO is the supervising Minister.
