The Ministry of Housing & Lands continues to play a vital role in facilitating major development projects for economic growth and social development. This is achieved though the aggressive policies and programmes of the Ministry in the management of our land and water resources and continued focus on the Housing Revolution Programme.
The achievement of this government in the area of housing is unprecedented. This is so because of a deliberate policy to promote and provide improved access to safe, healthy and affordable housing for all Dominicans as a major contributor to enhanced social and economic development. It is also based on a recognition that shelter is a basic human need and that the health and wellbeing of both the individual and the community are directly linked to the shelter enjoyed by its residents.
In addition to supporting the national housing programme, through acquisitions of properties and sale of state lands , the Ministry facilitates development in key sectors of the economy as agriculture, tourism, road improvement and construction, water supply, and social services.
Increasing efficiency and effectiveness in water distribution services throughout Dominica and improving sanitation management where possible is another major preoccupation of the Ministry. In this regard a National Water Systems Development Plan has been developed and continues to guide the activities aimed at rationalizing and upgrading water systems island.
The fact that the recent Country Poverty Assessment Report shows that poverty in Dominica has reduced is testimony of achievements of the Ministry in the areas of land, housing and water resource management. The intention is to build on these achievements as to improve the environment for doing business in Dominica and improve the quality of life of all Dominicans.
To institute policies, programmes and regulatory measures which support sustainable development through improved infrastructure in housing, lands and water resources.
To be an efficiently managed government department which facilitates appropriate development in housing, lands, settlements and water resources for the holistic development of the country.
