About
The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) is responsible for:
Contribute to the permanent development of the agricultural, agroindustrial and fishing sectors
Organize and develop the protection of health and quality of production processes of products of plant and animal origin
Ensure the safety of food
Generate the normative and operational instruments that allow economic agents to develop their activities under adequate conditions of information, transparency and equity, improve access to technology and necessary elements to increase productivity, quality and competitiveness of production
Contribute to protect public health, the environment, the agro system and the interest of consumers; promote insertion in external markets, both regional and extra-regional; and promote and inspect the management and sustainable use of natural resources.
Ensure and promote sustainable rural development, with emphasis on economic, social and environmental development
Promote interinstitutional coordination to achieve a fairer participation of producers, employees and organized society in the decision regarding the distribution of wealth generated and with support in the improvement and modernization of the direct institutional structure and the one related to the link with the rest of the State organization; tending to design differentiated and integral sectoral policies that give conditions to overcome the productive models in force from the past.
