Minority Rights Organization (MIRO) is a non-governmental, independent, neutral and non-profit human rights organization, regardless of racial discrimination, color, sex, national or social origin, religion or belief. MIRO strives to protect and promote the rights and interests of ethnic minority groups, including Khmer Krom in Cambodia, so that they are eligible to access the full freedoms and human rights and respect afforded to others in Cambodia.

MIRO was legally recognized as a local rights non-profit organization (NGO) in Cambodia on the 28^th January 2013 by the Ministry of Interior (MOI), with the vital mission to promote and protect the rights of minority ethnic and social groups in Cambodia.

Minority Rights Organization (MIRO) was established on the 7^th June 2012 by a group of Cambodian experts, who had extensive experiences and had worked in the fields of human rights and law for many years with minority groups in Cambodia. MIRO’s Executive Director Mr. Butmao SOURN served as Deputy Director with MIRO from 2013-2014 and as the Program Officer for the “Access to Justice for Minority Victims of the Khmer Rouge Regime Project in the frame work of ECCC and beyond” at Khmer Kampuchea Krom Human Rights Association (KKKHRA) from 2008-2010. Subsequently, he was employed by Legal Aid of Cambodia (LAC) from 2010-2012, where he worked as the Khmer Rouge Tribunal Project Coordinator at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). Overseeing and ensuring access to justice for minority victims of the Khmer Rouge in the courts. He was also the program officer/researcher with the Khmer Institute of democracy (KID), Science Specialist-Research Assistant at Pasteur Institute of Cambodia (PIC), legal consultant on statelessness project with Jesuit Service Cambodia (JRS-Cambodia), and Lecturer of labor law & business law with National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC). As well, Deputy Director Mr. NOUN Sovanrith has significant work experience with the Cambodia Human Rights Action Committee (CHRAC) as a complaint officer from 2008-2010. Furthermore, he was a Project Officer at Wathnakpheap Organization, legal trainer with Equitable Cambodia (EC), and training coordinator with ACTED-PSF.
