NSIA BANQUE formerly BIAO Côte d'Ivoire (abbreviated BIAO – CI) has its headquarters at 8-10 Avenue Joseph Anoma in Abidjan in the Plateau district.
The bank started its activities in 1906 in Grand-Bassam, under the name of Bank of West Africa (BAO). In 1934 , the bank's headquarters were transferred to Abidjan.
It was in 1965 that the bank took the name of BIAO (International Bank of West Africa), with the head office of the parent company based in Paris.
Originally majority-owned by foreign private interests, BIAO-CI was sold to the state of Côte d'Ivoire in 1980 .
Thus, on December 30 , 1980 , by an order of the Minister of Finance, the Ivory Coast agency became a bank under Ivorian law: BIAO Côte d'Ivoire. Its capital is then 35% owned by the Ivorian State.
On January 25, 2000 , thanks to privatizations initiated by the Government, the majority of the bank's capital (80%) was sold to the Belgian bank BELGOLAISE.
In September 2006 , the 80% of shares held by BELGOLAISE were taken over by a consortium formed by the NSIA Group (majority shareholder) and the Social Welfare Institution - IPS CNPS.
By order No. 106 / MPMEF / DGTCP / DT of March 31 , 2014 , the Minister of Finance authorized the change of name from BIAO-CI to NSIA BANQUE . This authorization gave concrete expression to the shareholders' desire to see the bank bear the name of the Group of which it has been a subsidiary since 2006, the NSIA Group, in a logic of coherence and development.
Following its official name change, NSIA BANQUE reaffirms its commitment to offer services that meet international standards in a booming market.
