Open Up Resources began as the K-12 OER Collaborative, a 13-state initiative to address quality gaps in the curriculum market.
They partnered with leading math and ELA experts to design excellent, standards-aligned core programs.
Thanks to generous philanthropic support, they provide their superb curricula to districts at no cost by publishing them as Open Educational Resources.
They also provide essential support for implementing these new core programs by offering key services, from professional development to printing, to districts and schools.
Subject experts–like standards author Bill McCallum of Illustrative Mathematics and curriculum pioneer EL Education–are selected to author their materials based on review of sample unit content.
Using expert-developed instruments, including the EQuIP and IMET rubrics, they implement quality reviews, then ensure consistent integration of their pioneering ELL supports and scaffolds for students with disabilities.
They forge the curriculum through large-scale district beta use, collaborating with teachers and district partners in the continuous improvement of each core program.
Their curricula are published as Open Educational Resources, using a CC-BY license. From that point, they are freely available for use by educators.
Their core programs have been designed for full-course use, and they recognize the importance of supporting successful implementations, with a full suite of professional learning and setup services.
