The Republic of Indonesia Peat Restoration Agency (BRG) is a non-structural institution that is under and is responsible to the President. BRG was formed on January 6, 2016, through Presidential Regulation Number 1 of 2016 concerning the Peat Restoration Agency.
BRG works in a special, systematic, directed, integrated and comprehensive manner to accelerate the recovery and return of hydrological functions of damaged peat mainly due to fire and drying.
The Duty of the Peat Restoration Agency
Coordinate and facilitate peat restoration in Riau Province, Jambi Province, South Sumatra Province, West Kalimantan Province, Central Kalimantan Province, South Kalimantan Province and Papua Province.
Function of the Peat Restoration Agency
a. Implementation of coordination and strengthening of policies for implementing peat restoration;
b. Planning, control and cooperation in organizing peat restoration;
c. Mapping peat hydrological units;
d. Determination of zoning of protected functions and cultivation functions;
e. Construction of peat rewetting infrastructure and all its facilities;
f. Re-arrangement of management of burning peat areas;
g. The dissemination and education of peat restoration;
h. Implementation of supervision in the construction, operation and maintenance of infrastructure on concession land; and
i. Implementation of other functions provided by the President.
