Powertech Transformers, previously known as ABB Powertech Transformers based in Pretoria West, is 80% owned by Power Technologies (Pty) Ltd (Powertech), the largest power-electrical group in Southern Africa and 20% owned by Power Matla. Powertech, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Altron (Allied Electronics Corporation Limited). Powertech is focused on delivering advanced technologies for the creation, management, distribution, storage and use of electricity across industries. Power and distribution transformers for the African continent are manufactured by Powertech Transformers at its operation in Pretoria West, Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Powertech Transformers (PTT) has over 60 years experience in successful design, manufacturing, testing, installion and commissioning of a full range of power and distribution transformers all the way up to the very large power transformers of voltages up to 765MVA. The PTT Group consists of two transformer divisions, Power Transformers and Distribution Transformers, plus an insulation business, Powertech Insulation. Recently, PTT also started a Services division that will focus on service and maintenance, commissioning as well as condition assessment for any type or make of transformer. PTT further has a fully SANAS accredited laboratory that offers analysis and testing of oil.
