About

The Red Cross Society of China is a unified Red Cross organization of the People's Republic of China. It is a social assistance group engaged in humanitarian work and an important member of the International Red Cross Movement. The Chinese Red Cross Society aims to protect human life and health, safeguard human dignity, carry forward the humanitarian spirit, and promote the cause of peace and progress.

The Chinese Red Cross Society was established in 1904. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was engaged in the rescue of refugees, the rescue of wounded soldiers and the relief of the victims. It actively worked to alleviate the suffering of people suffering from war and natural disasters and participated in international humanitarian relief activities. After the founding of New China, the Chinese Red Cross Society negotiated and reorganized in 1950. Premier Zhou Enlai personally presided over and revised the "China Red Cross Constitution." In 1952, the Chinese Red Cross resumed its legal seat in the International Red Cross Movement.

For a long time, the Chinese Red Cross has abide by the Constitution and laws, followed the basic principles of the International Red Cross Movement, and in accordance with the Geneva Conventions and its additional protocols to which China participates, earnestly fulfills its statutory duties and gives full play to its role as a government aide in the humanitarian field. Social development has made important contributions and has become an important force in the building of a socialist harmonious society, a vital force in the building of spiritual civilization, and an important channel for private diplomacy.

Main duties of the Chinese Red Cross

For a long time, the Chinese Red Cross has abide by the Constitution and laws, followed the basic principles of the International Red Cross Movement, and in accordance with the Geneva Conventions and its additional protocols to which China participates, earnestly fulfills its statutory duties and gives full play to its role as a government aide in the humanitarian field. Social development has made important contributions and has become an important force in the building of a socialist harmonious society, a vital force in the building of spiritual civilization, and an important channel for private diplomacy.

According to the newly revised Law of the People's Republic of China on Red Cross in 2017, the Chinese Red Cross Society performs the following duties in accordance with the law:

1. Carry out related work on rescue and disaster relief, and establish a Red Cross emergency rescue system. Provide emergency and humanitarian assistance to the wounded and sick and other victims in emergencies such as wars, armed conflicts and natural disasters, accidents and disasters, and public health events;

2. Carry out emergency nursing training, popularize emergency nursing, disaster prevention and health care knowledge, and organize volunteers to participate in on-site rescue;

3. Participate in and promote the donation of blood donation, remains and human organs, and participate in the work related to the donation of hematopoietic stem cells;

4. Organize the Red Cross volunteer service and the Red Cross youth work;

5. Participate in international humanitarian relief work;

6. Promote the basic principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols;

7. Completion of the entrustment of the People's Government in accordance with the basic principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement;

8. Work in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols;

9. Assist the people's government in carrying out other humanitarian service activities related to its duties.
