RENEW LLC is a U.S.-based, for-profit investment consulting firm helping accredited investors achieve social and financial returns by investing in businesses in Africa and other emerging economies.
PHILOSOPHY
We believe that middle market businesses in emerging economies are capable of driving broad-based economic growth and delivering significant returns for investors. Our research shows that African entrepreneurs possess the vision but lack capital, market linkages and other resources necessary for growth. Investors and other emerging market stakeholders lack access to opportunities and information they need to make sound decisions about investments and resource allocation. RENEW is developing a repository of data to meet these challenges.
METHODOLOGY
RENEW gathers, analyzes and packages information on emerging market businesses and supply chains to inform business growth that leads to investment success. We are building standardized datasets to analyze opportunities for investors, link supply chains in emerging economies, maximize profits for small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and help governments, foundations and non-profits make strategic decisions to facilitate economic growth.

RENEW brings together investment analysts, business consultants, attorneys, marketing professionals and economic development specialists with experience garnered from leading organizations and firms including the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, The Aspen Institute, ARM Investments, Keelpoint Wealth Management, Touchstone Consulting Group, World Vision, Systems Research Applications Inc., U.S. Green Building Council and Mayo Clinic.
EXPERIENCE
Team members have experience assisting with the due diligence process for over $200M in African investments, as well as planning and evaluating the impact of more than $20M in philanthropy throughout Africa for organizations such as The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. RENEW has developed an assessment methodology based on the insights of over 70 interviews with SMEs in diverse industries in five countries in sub-Saharan Africa and over 100 interviews with private equity investors, wealthy individuals, fund managers, development experts and government leaders in the U.S. and Africa.
