Their mission is to promote just and effective security through a human rights-based approach.

Their goal is to promote effective oversight of national security laws, policies and practices by the judiciary, parliaments, the public and other monitoring bodies, ensure national security laws, policies and practices are protective of human rights and individual freedoms, attain justice for national security-related human rights violations, in particular accountability and redress for victims including the most marginalised and disadvantaged groups, and further a coordinated and more effective civil society working for just and accountable security at national, regional and international levels
