They were based at Brighton Women’s Centre. Their ‘helpline’ was two women in a room with one landline telephone between them.
By 2007 they were running two refuges, a busy helpline and ran a range of different services. Their name no longer reflected who they were and what they did. They consulted with service users, funders, staff and stakeholders and in 2008 they rebranded to RISE.
RISE stands for Refuge, Information, Support and Education. Their vision is freedom from abuse and violence. They now have staff in community locations across Brighton & Hove and partner with abuse charities in East Sussex.
