The SHLMR (Société d' Habitations à Loyer Modéré de la Réunion) was created in 1971 by Pierre LAGOURGUE, then president of the General Council of La Réunion. It has been acquiring and developing land, building and managing social housing for more than 45 years serving families throughout the department of La Réunion.
The SHLMR is at the heart of the territory's challenges: an actor intervening at the crossroads of housing and employment issues, located in 23 of the 24 municipalities in Reunion, and supporting more than 27,000 households .
27,772 rental units and collective residences (31-12-2021)
This goes well beyond simple housing production issues. It is certainly a question of offering its customers housing at an affordable price, but also of supporting the public authorities in a dynamic of social inclusion by the animation of the districts and the promotion of "living well together".
In short, make neighborhoods places to live, and its tenants actors involved in the animation of these. This is why, from 2015, the SHLMR has structured itself to support this dynamic, in particular through city contracts. With 414 neighborhood events and 190 associations financially supported in 2021, the company has consolidated its commitment to the heart of neighborhoods, where their future lies. For the SHLMR, social housing is synonymous with progress.
