St. Margaret’s Hospice is a registered charity which has been at the heart of Somerset’s community, making each day count for 35 years. They strive to make each day count through the delivery of high quality, responsive, compassionate care to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness.
Through their medical expertise, nursing skills and specialist support services, they provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to over 3,200 patients and their families each year.
They put their patients at the heart of all they do; treating symptoms, controlling pain and caring for their emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.
They support the whole family through a wide range of services such as intensive care in our inpatient units, care at home, outpatient care, complimentary therapies and bereavement support for those who need it. They also support a wide range of carers, young and old. They provide care and support for families and friends for as long as they need us. They rely on over 1,200 volunteers to help deliver our care.
Hospices are normally associated with cancer. They care for anyone with a life shortening illness including motor-neurone disease, cardiac failure, renal failure, chronic respiratory disease and other life shortening conditions.
They provide our services for free. St. Margaret’s is a charity – they are not part of the NHS. Their income comes from the NHS and charitable sources from our local community. It costs over £10m each year to run our service. After NHS funding they still need to raise £7.5m to deliver our care. They are dependent upon the generosity of their Somerset Community.
