About

The Five Foundation is the global partnership to end female genital mutilation (FGM), an underfunded human rights abuse, which has affected at least 200 million women and girls around the world. It works to ensure increased collaboration and increased awareness of FGM as an urgent global issue, and to leverage increased resources for the movement to end FGM.

FGM is a global issue. It is prevalent on the African continent (including Somalia/Somaliland, Guinea, Djibouti, Sierra Leone, Mali, Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Burkina Faso, The Gambia, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Liberia, Guinea-Bissau, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Senegal, CAR, Kenya, Tanzania, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Niger), but also in Indonesia, Malaysia, Colombia, Yemen, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, India and elsewhere. In England and Wales, 137,000 women and girls have been affected, while 513,000 have been affected by FGM in the United States. Empowering communities, protecting girls and funding the front lines will help to not only end this extreme form of violence, but also bring us closer to reaching Global Goal 5 (Gender Equality).
