About

Established since 7 September 2004, The WAHID Institute (WI) is an institution that seeks to realize the intellectual principles and ideals of Abdurrahman Wahid in building moderate Islamic thought that encourages the creation of democracy, multiculturalism and tolerance among Muslims in Indonesia and around the world. In its various programs, WI is conducting activities within the environment of progressive Muslim activists and dialogues among religious leaders and political figures in the Islamic and Western worlds.

VISION The realization of Gus Dur's intellectual ideals to build the life of a prosperous Indonesian nation and humanity with social justice by upholding pluralism, multiculturalism, democracy, human rights inspired by Islamic values. The Wahid institute seeks to promote a peaceful and just world by developing a tolerant and moderate Islamic outlook and working for the welfare of all human beings

MISSION

  • Develop, maintain and disseminate peaceful and tolerant Islamic values
  • Developing dialogue between local and international cultures in order to broaden the harmony of Islam with various cultures and religions in the world
  • Encourage diverse initiatives to strengthen civil society and good governance in Indonesia in strengthening democracy
  • Promote the active participation of various religious groups in building cultural dialogue and peace dialogue
  • Develop initiatives to improve social welfare and justice
