The Constitutional Court of the Dominican Republic was created by the Constitution dated January 26, 2010. Its mission is to guarantee the supremacy of the Constitution, the defense of the constitutional order and the protection of fundamental rights. The Constitutional Court was conceived by the Constitution as the supreme organ of interpretation and control of constitutionality.

In order to comply with the powers expressly conferred by the Constitution and the Organic Law of the Constitutional Court and the Constitutional Procedures, no. 137-11, the decisions issued by the Constitutional Court are final and irrevocable and constitute binding precedents for the public authorities and all the organs of the State. The Constitutional Court is autonomous from the other public powers and organs of the State and has administrative and budgetary autonomy.

It is based in the city of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, but can be held anywhere else in the Dominican Republic.
