About

UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories so that children's rights are fulfilled and so that boys and girls have the opportunities to develop all their capacities. We have been working in Uruguay since 1992.

UNICEF has been present in Uruguay since 1992, working to promote the rights of children and adolescents and create opportunities for all to achieve the full development of their capacities, especially the most vulnerable. To achieve this, it provides technical cooperation and financial assistance; brings international experiences and innovative proposals to solve problems; and works together with public institutions, civil society, companies, academia, the media and the general population.

UNICEF works in the country based on a cooperation program that is agreed with the government every five years, according to the needs and priorities of children. The cooperation program with which the country will work until the year 2024 is currently being executed.

With the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as a guide, UNICEF works in Uruguay in different areas: early childhood, protection against violence, education, health, access to justice, the right to grow up as a family, social policies, social mobilization and fund generation.

In addition, UNICEF responds to emergencies around the world, reaching the areas most affected by wars and natural disasters, with vital resources, quickly and efficiently.

UNICEF Uruguay is financed with funds that come from abroad and with contributions from individual donors and Uruguayan companies.
