The Universidad Veracruzana (UV) was founded in 1944 and acquired its autonomy in 1996. It is located in the state of Veracruz located on the Gulf of Mexico. It has five regional headquarters: Xalapa, Veracruz, Orizaba-Córdoba, Poza Rica-Tuxpan and Coatzacoalcos-Minatitlán, with a presence in 27 municipalities. Due to its enrollment, it is among the five largest state public universities of higher education in Mexico.

In recent years, its coverage has been greater than 80 thousand students. In formal education, it offers more than 300 educational programs at a technical, university technical, undergraduate and graduate level; and in non-formal education it has an extensive range of courses for learning different languages, art workshops, music workshops and those aimed at foreign students. Its educational offer covers all areas of knowledge, organized into six academic areas: Arts, Biological-Agricultural Sciences, Health Sciences, Economic-Administrative, Humanities and Technical.

The Intercultural Veracruzana University (UVI) is immersed within the Institution, being the only one with this characteristic. It has more than 95% of its programs of recognized quality. It is distinguished by its editorial, artistic, cultural, sports, research and outreach work. In terms of internationalization and interculturality, it maintains ties of cooperation and ties, and promotes internal and external collaboration at the local, regional, national and international levels. It is characterized by its humanistic vision and spirit of social justice.

Values ​​and principles are practiced daily at the UV, such as: dignity, equality, non-discrimination, responsibility, solidarity, democracy, respect, honesty and equity. Its purposes are to preserve, create and transmit culture, for the benefit of society, with criteria of academic excellence, ethics and social responsibility, it is committed to transparency and accountability; implements policies of sustainable development and innovation with the perspective of contributing to the achievement of a more productive, just and safe society.

Its university work is developed mainly through: 77 faculties, the Open Education System, 23 Research Institutes, 19 Research Centers, two high-tech service laboratories, 18 observatories, the Veterinary Hospital for Large Species, the Museum of Anthropology of Xalapa, the Concert Hall of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra (Tlaqná), eight Free Art Workshops, two Children's Musical Initiation Centers, the Art Gallery, 17 Language and Self-Access Centers, the Department of Foreign Languages, the School for Foreign Students, six Units of Library and Information Services (USBI), 48 Libraries, the Virtual Library, four headquarters of the Intercultural Veracruzana University (UVI), seven University Houses, 23 University Brigades,the Center for Health Studies, the University Clinic for Reproductive and Sexual Health, and the Cancer Care Center.

Currently, the University is directed by Dra. Sara Deifilia Ladrón de Guevara González, the first woman to hold this position in the course of more than seven decades of creation.
