The Federal University of Juiz de Fora (in Portuguese, Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora – UFJF) presents itself today as a scientific and cultural center of a region with more than 2,5 million people, in Minas Gerais, and is currently going through an expansion process, which comes along with a great development in its scope of activities.
UFJF has been working for over 50 years on the fulfillment of projects and dreams of thousands of people who are a part of this institution.
Recognized as one of the 100 top universities in Latin America by three different surveys, UFJF has also been standing out in national classifications. In an evaluation carried out by the country’s Department of Education – the General Index of Graduation Courses - UFJF is listed among the 20 best universities in the country. There are over 23 thousand students inside the two university campuses, in Juiz de Fora and Governador Valadares, and also in distance education courses.
The Federal University of Juiz de Fora was created on December 23rd, 1960, from the union of several higher education institutions recognized all around the country, such as the Medicine, Engineering,
Economic sciences, Law, Pharmacy and Dental schools. UFJF was the second university to be established outside the main capitals of Brazil.
