The Federal University of the Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB) is an Autarchy, created by Law 11,151 of July 29, 2005 , for dismemberment of the School of Agronomy of the Federal University of Bahia, with headquarters and forum in the city of Cruz das Almas and installed units in the municipalities of Amargosa, Cachoeira, Feira de Santana, Santo Amaro and Santo Antônio de Jesus. It has administrative, patrimonial, financial and didactic-pedagogical autonomy.

The UFRB is constituted in a multicampi model   whose main objective is to explore the socioenvironmental potential of each area of ​​the Recôncavo, as well as to serve as an integrating pole, based on the following principles:

• Cooperation with socioeconomic, scientific, technological, cultural and artistic development of the State and Country and commitment to regional development;
• Creation of social recognition frameworks, coming from the special services provided in the service of the population;
• Participative management;
• Use of new communication and information technologies;
• Equity in relations between  campuses ;
• Development of an environment capable of facilitating distance education;
• Process of permanent institutional evaluation;
• Adoption of affirmative social inclusion policies.
