Summary

I am a public health specialist and inter-disciplinary researcher focusing on health policy and systems research in lower income countries. I have over 20 years’ experience in international health, 15 years of which were in management positions in TB and leprosy control programmes in Nigeria and Niger Republic, including working as Country Director of an international organisation involved in leprosy control globally. Over the past two decades, I have developed extensive experience in monitoring and evaluation, formulating medical policies and implementation strategies, strengthening human capacity. Countries of work experience include: Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, India, Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria, Niger Republic, Oman, Pakistan and Zambia. My interest in health systems research commenced with epidemiological and health services research (1993-2002), and evolved into mixed method evaluation of interventions for stigma reduction (2005-2008), and to qualitative investigation of cultural, political and economic processes that shape health-related stigmatization (PhD thesis, 2012). Other interests include: Health policy analysis, eHealth, Immigrant Health, User involvement in healthcare, Impact of community-based rehabilitation (CBR), and organization of healthcare programmes in developing countries.
