
Bertha brings 13 years of experience leading the mainstreaming of gender and inclusive approaches to development and humanitarian actions. She's also facilitated various stand-alone women's rights work on VAWG and GBV, women in leadership and women's economic empowerment. An international development expert originally from Malawi who has led various development interventions from an inclusive perspective across developing and emerging countries. She's facilitated various environmental and social safeguards assessments; gender analyses/assessments and gender action plans; policy review/development; influencing and advocacy; movement building and women-led organizing. She is passionate about improving the livelihoods of most marginalized groups in society, sustainable community development, social entrepreneurship for socio-economic empowerment of individuals and groups, especially women and youth. Bertha has worked with various organizations aimed at ending poverty, promoting inclusive green growth and addressing environmental and social safeguards including Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Oxfam International, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), World Food Program (WFP), Plan International, and Malawi's Local Human/Women's rights organizations. An award winner of the Pan Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government conferred by the CEO Global and Titans: Building Nations (2019); recognized as a Global Goodwill Ambassador (Humanitarian) by GGA Foundation (2019) and was appointed as a Senior Advisor to the Women’s Network of the Five Continents in 2019. In 2004, she was awarded the 3rd Best Essay writer on Safer Choices in HIV and AIDS prevention among the youth by the Eastern and Southern Health Community in Africa. Bertha holds an MA in Education, Gender and International Development from the Institute of Education, University College of London (2011), Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the African Bible College (2007) and has undergone various professional training in leadership, feminist methodologies, project management, health and human rights, gender in humanitarian actions among others.
