Brendan Howard

Brendan has been employed with NIRAS since 2010 and is an experienced business development team manager, evaluator and evaluation manager who has managed proposals up to up to £10m+ for FCDO and other key clients of NIRAS. He also takes on other key roles in proposal teams for NIRAS, including commercial lead and bid director. His evaluation experience spans a number of projects with NIRAS and he has evaluated over 20 Darwin Initiative (Defra and FCDO funded) conservation projects. He has experience conducting interview based qualitative surveys in a number of countries for projects relating to REDD+, urban design and public transport infrastructure as well as to political mobilisation of grassroots civil society organisations. He has strong knowledge and understanding of issues around climate change and green growth; has appraised public policy objectives and delivery and is experienced in quantitative and qualitative analysis of research data; and conducted critical assessments of relationships between land use planning and planning processes. Brendan also adds value to NIRAS’ communications and learning dissemination offering through his experience as a commercial and editorial photographer with his photographs purchased by clients including UN-Habitat, World Bank Group, National Geographic, and OFID, as well as being used in a number of NIRAS publications (briefing notes, posters and reports). He has an MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering and an MA (Hons) in Geography and is trained in or has workshop experience with Evaluations, Supervisory Skills, Leadership and Management, and Aid Funded Business.
