Summary

Mr. Brian Mwanamambo is an agricultural economist with extensive experience in international development and development finance, and specialties in agribusiness value chains development, private sector development, SME development, and project/portfolio management. His work experience spans the private sector, international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs), multilateral development banks, other development agencies and consulting services. He previously worked at the African Development Bank Group's regional office for Southern Africa (RDGS), where he successfully coordinated at the regional level, operations of the Bank's Jobs for Youth in Africa Initiative. While at the Bank, he also served as Task Manager for a portfolio of bank-funded over $40 million Sovereign operations (public sector) and Trust Fund projects. He has extensive international experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, having worked in more than 15 countries across the continent, particularly in the Southern, East and West Africa regions. He has a deep understanding of bilateral, multilateral and international development agencies' project cycle management processes having managed projects funded by USAID, US African Development Foundation, African Development Bank, DANIDA, SIDA, and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), among others. In addition, he has experience working in countries with, and has a sound understanding of situations of, fragility, conflict and violence (FCV). He has successfully led multi-sectoral teams in the identification, preparation and appraisal of agribusiness value chain development, market access, agricultural commercialization, rural development, MSME development, business incubation, and youth employment projects. He also recently (2020-21), participated in the development of a portfolio of over US$200 million African Development Bank-funded Covid-19 multisectoral emergency response and economic recovery support programs in South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Madagascar, Namibia and Sao Tome and Principe, including serving as Co-Team Leader for the Sao Tome and Principe program. Prior to this, he served as Senior Business Development Specialist for Africa Region at ChildFund International USA, where he was responsible for resource mobilization and cultivation of strategic partnerships for the organization's development projects in Africa. Prior to that he served as Southern Africa regional representative and member of the Board of Directors of the African Agribusiness Incubators Network (AAIN), and as Country Director-Zambia at the US African Development Foundation (USADF), where he was responsible for expanding the Foundation's portfolio of development projects in Zambia. He also has private sector experience, having served as CEO of a successful private sector agribusiness development company, and Managing Director for Kudu Trading Company Limited, which became the largest supplier of grains to WFP's school feeding programs in Zambia within two years of its establishment. He holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University in the USA, BEng degree in Agricultural Engineering from University of Zambia and Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management/Administration from Cambridge International College, UK.
