Eric Roeder is a sustainable development specialist with 25+ years of experience delivering high-impact initiatives across the UN system and international development community. His leadership spans just energy transition, climate resilience, green jobs, disaster risk reduction, sustainable agriculture, and inclusive economic growth, with extensive regional expertise across Asia and the Pacific. At the ILO, he led Just Energy Transition strategies across ASEAN, contributing to regional frameworks on green job creation, large-scale skills development, and climate-labor policy alignment. He also advanced analytical work on Waste-to-Energy strategies to reduce methane emissions and generate up to 460,000 green jobs by 2050 across Asia. As ESCAP Sustainable Business Network (ESBN) Focal Point, he designed maritime sector strategies to augment tsunami monitoring using SMART cables, shipping GPS, and offshore infrastructure—bringing economic, safety, and environmental co-benefits. He initiated multi-stakeholder partnerships under ESBN, including support for revitalizing the South Aral Sea, resulting in ESCAP Resolution 79/8 (2023). Eric co-authored a G7 policy brief on Indonesia’s Prakerja platform, a digital skills program training over 17.5 million beneficiaries for the green economy. He is recognized for bridging policy and practice through systems thinking, lateral problem-solving, and empathy-driven stakeholder engagement. He works fluently across government, private sector, trade unions, donors, and civil society to co-create SDG-aligned solutions across sectors and regions.
