Summary

Ian Macpherson has fifteen years’ experience of working in education and development. He has led education research in over twenty five countries, and managed education programmes in Africa, South Asia and Latin America. For the last four years he has been with the Global Partnership for Education where he currently leads the Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX). Prior to that he worked with the Open Society Foundations for eight years in several positions including Deputy Program Director and Director of Special Projects in the Education Support Program and, before then, a range of international NGOs at national, regional and international level. In addition to a core concern with justice and human rights issues in education, he is particularly interested in global governance dynamics in education, and the role of non-state actors in education sector planning, policy, and implementation. Ian gained his PhD in education studies from Oxford University and has an MSc in Educational Research Methodology from Oxford University, an MSc in Development Studies from SOAS, London University, and an MA (Hons) in Mental Philosophy from Edinburgh University.
