James Akpablie

James Akpablie is a distinguished international public health physician with a robust track record of over 23 years and a demonstrable expertise implementing Public Health programs and services. This extensive experience spans public health emergencies, infectious disease control, surveillance and prevention encompassing the EPI, mass vaccination, reproductive, maternal, adolescent and child health and HIV/AIDS/STIs, Malaria, and Tuberculosis control. Having worked at the highest level both locally and internationally, James Akpablie has collaborated with several governmental, bilateral, and multilateral agencies, and has been at the forefront of numerous projects and programs funded by prominent and prestigious global organisations, including WHO, UNFPA, UNICEF, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, World Bank/IFC, USAID, CDC, DFID, and Global Fund. He has worked with WHO, UNFPA, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and DFID, and his most recent contribution to global health security involves spearheading humanitarian interventions, notably leading responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in Namibia and the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in Sierra Leone and leading the vaccination interventions. His dedication to strengthening the health systems and building a resilient health system post-emergency is demonstrated in his instrumental roles in supporting the REDISSE and Pandemic Fund applications in Sierra Leone and Namibia respectively and introduction of new vaccines such as meningococcal conjugate, Ebola, COVID-19, and other EPI program vaccines. He has an additional qualification in master’s in public health (MPH), diplomas in Genitourinary Medicine & Venereology and Reproductive Health (from Liverpool) and several certificates, showcasing his commitment to continuous learning and skills enhancement. His diverse skill set positions him as a prominent candidate for leadership roles in health security and his expertise in global health security and emergency management makes him an invaluable asset for initiatives aimed at safeguarding public health anywhere in the world.
